Recover Deleted Photos on Windows using DiskDigger

DiskDigger is a great tool to recover all your deleted files and the most interesting part of it is you need not install it on your Windows. Yes, you can have it on a USB flash drive and can start the process. This is a fantastic feature and in fact, most people use it for this feature! Here is how we can use it to locate our files.

Step-1:

Open the DiskDigger wizard and select the drive on which you are planning to run the recovery process. Here, let us go ahead with the removable media.

Step-2:

The next step is to choose the type of scan i.e. to dig deep or dig deeper scan.  The former does scan the entire disk and also it searches only the mentioned file system. But it is quicker in delivering the results. The latter on the other hand, scan the entire disk space irrespective of the file systems. Obviously, it takes much time to complete the process and to recover deleted photos on Windows. There is also a major point to be discussed here that if you wish to see the file names, then you should go for the dig deep option. The latter does not display the file names.

Step-3:

Here you can choose the type of file that needs to be recovered and is possible only with the dig deeper option. Just look at the below picture as for how you can select the file types such as jpeg, png, gif, Bitmap, Tiff, Word doc, excel sheet, etc.

Step-4:

When you are done with selecting the scan type, it starts the process.  You need to wait for a time depending on the data. Once it is over, you can see the results as in the below picture. You can just click on any file to see the preview on its right side. There is an option named Restore selected file(s) on the top of the wizard screen and it lets you recover deleted photos on Windows.

Recuva is another tool to do the recovery process and you need to install it on your Windows. Though it seems to be one more tool in the list, its performance is simply superb! Step-1:

While you install the tool, just make sure that whether you need the desktop shortcut, Start menu shortcuts, automatic updates, and the Yahoo Toolbar.

Step-2:

Now, launch the wizard and click the “next” button to recover deleted photos on Windows.

Step-3:

In this step, you need to choose the file type and it can be pictures, music, documents, video, emails, or show all files. Step-4:

Now, it is time to specify where you had the file before deletion, for example, SD card, My Documents, any specific location, etc.

Step-5:

Once you are done with the selection of the file location, you need to select the scan type such as a regular or deep scan. It is better to go ahead with a regular scan for the first time and if you could not get your file, then the deep scan is recommendable. Step-6:

The wizard now displays the list recovered from files and you can highlight the required files. Then click ‘Recover Highlighted’ and you are done. If the list is really huge and it is tougher for you to investigate each and every file. At this moment, when you remember the last modified date or the creation date, then you save your time. Just click “Switch to advanced view” and specify the dates. The list gets shortened for you to recover deleted photos on Windows.

Step-7:

You can also see a preview of the recovered file from the Recuva wizard by just clicking on the file. The preview appears on its right as in the picture below.

Step-4:

You can also speed up your recovery process by further shortening the result with the help of filters. It allows you to filter with respective to Filename/extension, size or by date. Step-5:

There is another excellent feature that finds you the file quickly if you know the file name. Click the “Find” option and enter the file name.
