You may be bored of using just the Apple approved Apps and if you wish to go beyond those boundaries, then here is how to Jailbreak your iPhone or iPad. It is the process of using Apps on your iPhone or iPad that are unauthorized by the Apple Inc. Though we show you how we by no means recommend this to you! As it is a violation of the policies of the Apple, you can jailbreak your iPhone or iPad at your own interest.

What is Jailbreaking?  – Related Warning!

We are pretty clear that Jailbreaking is something against what Apple offers to its customers and therefore, we should be very cautious in doing it. When you Jailbreak your iPhone or iPad, there are possibilities that you are handing over your personal information to hackers! Also, Apple says that such a process might lead to reduced battery life, security-related issues, and unavailable software update services from the Apple. Just for using few Apps, you may lose the valuable services from App. So be prepared for all these before you jailbreak your iPhone or iPad.

Pros and Cons of Jailbreaking

  • You can access any App on your iPhone or iPad.
  • Just change the look of your iPhone or iPad by customizing it.
  • Enjoy downloading Apps not only from the AppStore but from anywhere!
  • Start using more functional Apps than what Apple provides you.
  • Tether your iPhone or iPad to your Mac and enjoy the Hotspot feature.

  • It leads to violation of Apple’s policies and your device won’t be covered under the warranty.
  • It helps hackers to capture your sensitive data such as passwords, etc through illegitimate Apps.
  • The process may lead to reduced battery life and security-related issues on your device.

Backup your Data

It is a better idea to backup all your music files, video, and other important files on your iPhone or iPad. You can also sync the iTunes library with that of the device. It ensures that you are not going to miss any data even when any discrepancy happens. Though such discrepancies or data losses are not always expected, it is a good practice to be prepared for it. Types of Jailbreaking Methods

  • Tethered Method:

In this method, you need to connect your device to a Mac to jailbreak your iPhone or iPad. It is comparatively a complex method and once the devices are detached then the Jailbreak automatically wipes off. So you need to start the Jailbreak again only by establishing a connection between the device and the Mac. That is why we are mentioning it as a tedious process! Want to know more about it, then just read here to know  What is tethering?

  • Untethered Method:

Here, you do not require such connections to a Mac and you can Jailbreak your iPhone or iPad within your device! This is easy, right? Yes, it is! But the only issue is that if your data is hacked, then it remains hacked even after stopping the jailbreaking process. This is something serious as we are going to lose the security of our data even after we closed the unofficial accesses.

  • Semi-tethered Method:

This method does not require an explicit Mac connection to your device but you need to re-run the process after certain intervals of time or after you restart your device. It is actually better than a tethered method as you do not establish connections to a Mac. Also, it is better a untethered method as it is comparatively secure!

Preparing for the Jailbreak

You can go ahead with the iOS 10.2 for a full jailbreak whereas iOS 10.2.1 for a semi jailbreak. Semi jailbreak allows only limited access to jailbreaking features and you cannot enjoy installing every app that you wish. Therefore it is important to use the iOS 10.2 to enjoy the full jailbreak. Before you start the backup process, update your iOS through Settings -> General -> Software Update. This is often said to be the Over-the-air (OTA) update. You can also update the iOS by plugging into the iTunes. Once you plug-in, it automatically asks you for the update. If you wish to do a full jailbreak, then just use iOS 10.2 and do not update to iOS 10.2.1 as it allows only a semi jailbreak. Read here to know How to fix iOS issues that are Most Common.

There is one more thing with respect to whether you have used jailbreaking previously. If you are using it for the first time, then there is no issue. Otherwise, the iOS will fail to update and you need to enter the recovery mode. This will reset the device to the original factory settings. Now you can set up your Apple ID, etc or you can skip these steps to do it later. But be sure that you are on the Home screen before you proceed to the further steps.

Jailbreak Your iPhone or iPad with iOS 10.2

We can jailbreak on the iOS 10.2 devices with the help of Yalu jailbreak App.  As with any other jailbreaking App, this is also not approved by the Apple Inc and you are doing it at your own risk. The App supports devices such as iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPad Pro, and iPhone SE. Also as of now, these devices are running iOS 10.2 and the Yalu jailbreak is supported in the iOS. But it is not supported in iOS 10.2.1 and hence if you plan to jailbreak your iPhone or iPad, do not upgrade to iOS 10.2.1. Here is how we can do it.

Download the Yalu jailbreak tool for iOS 10.2 here. It is advisable not to download from any other unknown source as it may lead to security vulnerabilities.

Now, download the correct version of Cydia Impactor here.

Unzip the above file (Cydia Impactor) and run it.

While it is running, connect your iPhone or iPad to your Mac/PC with a cable. Now, your iPhone or iPad is recognized automatically by the App.

Once the connection is established, just drag the Yalu Jailbreak IPA to the Cydia Impacter tool. Then click ‘Start’ and then ‘Ok’.  Read here to know How to use the Cydia Impactor to sign and Install IPA files or Apps.

You can see an Apple warning message.

Sign-in with your Apple-ID, preferably a secondary Apple e-mail id. This is just required for the sign-in purpose, and nothing more than that.

The Yalu Jailbreak will install on your iPhone or iPad.

Now go to Settings -> General  -> Profiles & Device Management of your iOS device. Now just tap the Apple-ID that you used in the Cydia Impactor tool.

Then tap ‘Trust’ to ensure that you trust the tool.

Open the Yalu Jailbreak App and click ‘Go’.

Now it takes some time to inject the load to your device and then it automatically reboots.

Once your device restarts, you can see the Cydia Impactor tool on the Home screen. Now you can just open the Yalu Jailbreak App and can install your favorite apps.

It is a semi-tethered kind of jailbreaking and you need to re-run the app when you restart the device. So you can also jailbreak your iPhone or iPad very easily!

Restore your Data

After you finish the jailbreaking process, then it is important to restore your iPhone or iPad from the iTunes. We have already backed up our data in the iTunes and it’s time to sync our device. Just plug the iOS device into iTunes and synchronize both. This process restores all the backed up music, photos, videos, etc and you would never lose any of your favorite files!
